Step outside Oakdene and you could almost be in a woodland glade.
The Forest themed garden with cleverly decorated fencing provides a distinctly woody feel to the exterior of this adult mental health ward at St James’ Hospital, Portsmouth.
Some rooms at the 14-bed unit are lucky enough to overlook the striking woodland garden, designed to provide an oasis of calm for patients and their visitors.
Inside, the modern unit is equally impressive, following a £1.1m refurbishment carried out by Solent Estates and Facilities.
The bright, airy corridors offer a welcoming feel and the walls are decorated with eye-catching images of local scenes and landmarks.
All bedrooms have newly refurbished en-suite facilities along with many homely features, including thoughtfully designed storage and shelving.
Two patient lounges, a kitchen/dining area and staff accommodation have also been upgraded in the project.
