Project progress: May 2024
Each month we think we’ve been busy, only for things to get busier again, and May has been no different! We reached a record of over 100 operatives on site this month, all working hard bringing our new rehabilitation building towards completion.
We’re beginning to see some exciting progress towards what staff and patients will see when they use the building later this year. More doors have arrived on site ready for installation in different areas and we are continuing to lay vinyl flooring in the en suite bathrooms and utility areas.
The decorators are painting the walls to create a bright and welcoming environment for those using the building, with a mixture of neutral colours and feature walls. Preparations for ceilings have begun now that all the power and ventilation pipework is in place and we are continuing to install lift components – the lift cars are in place and we intend to use one as the construction lift for moving heavy items between floors in the last few months of construction.
On the outside of the building, works have taken place on the terrace to finalise the beams and the glazing, ready to welcome in the sunlight on brighter days. Up on the roof, solar panels continue to be installed and work on the air handling unit duct work and controls has been carried out.
Excavation around the site has taken place to allow for power cables and medical gas pipelines to be laid in the ground and the external cladding was completed towards the end of the month.
We operate site tours on Friday afternoons, which can be booked through Sam Vincent sam.vincent@solent.nhs.uk. They start at 12.45pm where we join a short safety briefing with Brymor colleagues before taking a full tour of the rehabilitation building, and all PPE is provided.
