Project progress: June 2024

Much of the work we have highlighted before is continuing, with tradespeople moving around the building to complete different areas. This includes the painting and decorating, plastering of areas that have been left later in the process, such as the stairwells, and laying vinyl flooring in the corridors, bedrooms, wards and open areas.

We have continued to install doors and interior windows, such as to the fully glazed office on the second floor and the ceiling grids are still being installed on the second floor.

The first fix mechanical and engineering works have been ongoing for months and we are now in the final stages and installing the last data cables, so this stage is almost complete, which will enable airflow, water and power supply around the building.

As we move on through the project timeline there are some elements that are reaching completion, such as the main roof, and the lift cars are now installed and working to support the teams in bringing materials between floors.

Outside the building, we are continuing works to lay power cables and medical gas pipelines under the roads to ensure there is a power supply to the building when it is open and some landscaping work has begun around the site.

We have also been working on the connection to the main Western Community Hospital, carrying out roofing works and tiling, and beginning the first fix to the new kitchen area that will be in the Snowdon Ward area.

We continue to welcome visiting staff for site tours on Friday afternoons, which can be booked through Sam Vincent sam.vincent@solent.nhs.uk. They start at 12.45pm where we join a short safety briefing with Brymor colleagues before taking a full tour of the rehabilitation building, and all PPE is provided. To see what you can expect on a tour, you can watch our video here.
