Project progress: December 2023
Work on the building has been continuing, with more progress made in areas including the roof insultation, the framework for the windows to be put in place, dry lining for the internal walls, electrical system installation and screeding ahead of floors being laid.
The site is a busy place as the many different elements are worked on to create a working clinical building and our visitors have been impressed to see how quickly the building is developing and how much space there is inside. We are starting to see the reality of what will be delivered by rehabilitation services from this new facility and it’s an exciting time.
As well as clinical teams coming to see the site, we have also been taking staff from facilities management around the building. So many different teams are involved in the successful operation of a hospital and we want all of them to have the opportunity to see what is being created at the new rehabilitation unit.
Nikki Liversage, Clinical Matron (inpatients), said: “Being able to see the progress with the new build has been amazing. During my recent walkaround you could see the framework for each room and helped me to visual how the finished ward will look. I would encourage all team members moving into the unit to book a visit!”
Generating energy on site
Over the past few months, Brymor has been managing the process of installing solar PV panels on the Western Community Hospital, Broadcast House and the Horizon building as part of our ambition to become more sustainable. This work has almost finished with the final panels being fixed ready for scaffolding to be removed in early 2024.
Work finished on Friday 22 December and the site closed until after New Year as the Brymor and contractor teams took a well earned break over the holidays.
